Long time, no see

November 28, 2008

Man, I haven’t blogged in forever.  Well, I guess I can blame it on the end of semester work that I have let pile up.  I should probably get to my picks so I don’t forget to do them…for the fourth week in a row.

  • Bills over Niners
  • Ravens over Bengals
  • Bucs over Saints
  • Giants over Redskins
  • Dolphins over Rams
  • Colts over Browns
  • Packers over Panthers
  • Falcons over Bolts
  • Jets over Broncos
  • Steelers over Patsies
  • The Raaaaiders over Chiefs
  • Vikings over da Bears
  • Houston over the Jags

Fantasy Starters

  • Steve Slaton – The Jags are inconsistent to say the least.  Lets say this will be one of their inconsistent weeks, Slaton takes advantage of this.
  • Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams – When the Dolphins come to town, the Rams are gonna know they are there.  Since St. Louis can’t stop anyone this year, how do they expect to stop both Ronnie and Ricky?  They go off this week.  Welcome to St. Louis, the worst show on turf.
  • Trent Edwards – Did someone find their sea legs last week?  Edwards was a pleasent fantasy surprise last week.  This week, he goes against a team with double the chiefs record…2.  Edwards will have fun this week, once again, circling the wagons in buffalo.
  • Matt Forte – Start a running back against the Vikings?  Oh, its Matt Forte.  No one can stop him, the Vikings won’t be able to either.
  • Payton Manning – Hes back, Payton is back!  Sorry Cleveland, he will destroy you this weekend.
  • Miami, Baltimore, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh Defenses – They all have favorable matchups, except for Pittsburg.  I have faith though.

Fantasy Bench Warmers

  • Shaun Hill – No 49ers quarterback can have too many good games in a row.  Lets say the Bills mess his day up on sunday.  Don’t play him.
  • Aaron Rogers – Carolina has a real tough defense.  He struggled against the Saints Defense last week. I mean, Jason David picked him off twice last week…twice.  Sit him.
  • Braylon Edwards – God does he drop a lot of passes.  I don’t see him doing anything this week, except getting laid out by Bob Sanders, if he plays.  Glad to see he is playing “inspired” football.
  • Willie Parker – The Patriots run defense shut down Miami’s good run offense last week.  I don’t see parker getting more than 75 yards and not reaching the endzone.
  • Giants, New England, Jacksonville, and Green Bay Defenses – Just hunches.  I see a lot of points being scored in these games.

Sleeper – Jerious Norwood – I see good things for him the weekend in San Diego.  Start him with confidence, he will get you points.

Thursday night football

November 6, 2008

Just to get my pick in for tonight, I’ll take the browns.  Even though this is Brady Quinn’s first start, I think he will be able to pull it off.  The Broncos have no defense at all; Quinn will do just fine.

I also have 3 guys playing tonight on my fantasy team.  Jamal Lewis, Kellen Winslow, and Eddie Royal.  If I can get 30 Points out of them tonight, I’ll be a happy camper.

  • Browns over the Broncos

Week 9

October 30, 2008

I forgot to post my week 8 predictions, it was kind of a busy week.  Well I say lets right down to business for week 9.

I haven’t done this in awhile, but lets look at some of my fantasy studs and duds for this week.

Start ‘em

Kyle Orton- If you drafted him this year, hats off to you.  I’m like the other 90 percent of people who picked him up on the waiver wire, but very happy still.  Orton plays the Lions defense which allows the most points in the entire league.  When you have a gunslinger (yeah i know its weird to call Orton a gunslinger) like Orton verses a crappy pass defense, good things will happen for you.  Orton goes off on sunday, 300 yards passing, 3 TD, INT.

Earnest Graham- I like him this week, he has a favorable match up and is running well this year.  You could see Dunn steal some carries in this game, but Graham will carry the workload.  KC can’t seem to stop the rush this year and they are going to get a heavy dose of Graham this week.  90 yards rushing, 1 TD, 30 yards receiving.

Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal- For the first time all season, the Dolphins were able to stop the pass against the Bills.  They aren’t going to be so lucky this week.  I think both these guys are going to have big days against the lackluster Miami secondary.  As much as I love the Dolphins, these two are going to tear them apart.  Marshall will have 120 yards and a TD, Royal will have 75 yards and a TD.

Heath Miller- This one is kind of a gamble, but he is due for a big game.  Big Ben has so much time in the pocket thanks to his very protective offensive line (anyone detect sarcasm?).  I see him checking the ball down to miller on quick slant routes to try and open up the deep pass.  Miller needs to be more involved in the is offense, he is too good of an asset to go wasted.  65 yards receiving and a TD.

Eagles Defense- With Hasselbeck still hurt, the Seahawks turn to Seneca Wallace…he is also a wide receiver.  He connected on two TD passes last week, but that was against the 49ers defense.  The Eagles are much tougher and aren’t going to make mistakes.  Eagles will allow 6 points, and have 3INTs and 1 fumble recovery.

Sit ‘em

Steve Slaton and Ahman Green- These guys have to run against the Williams wall this week, and thats no fun.  Minnesota will put a stop to this dynamic duo and force them to beat them through the air.  They will combine for 70 yards this week.

Aaron Rodgers- He has a tough match up this week traveling to Tennessee to face the Titans and their amazing defense.  I don’t see big things from this week due to the fact that the pass rush and secondary of the Titans is phenomenal.  200 yards, 1TD, and 2 INTs.

Donnie Avery- This guy needs to have a bad game sometime, so why not against the Cardinals.  The Cardinals seem like a well put together football team this year and have corrected many of their mistakes from previous seasons.  How long can the Rams stay like this is the questions, one slip up and they are back to their old ways.  Avery will have 60 yards receiving.

Kellen Winslow- Even though he is on my fantasy team, I don’t see anything good coming from him this week.  He has been a bust all season and I don’t expect things to change.  35 yards receiving.

Giants Defense- I don’t know, I just have a gut feeling that Brad Johnson finds his feet this week and starts to put points on the board.  They are going to allow 27 ponts and have 2 sacks.

Sleeper of the week

Ted Ginn Jr.- I’m not sure this is considered a sleeper after his huge week against the bills, but I see Ginn doing the same thing again against the Broncos.  Gin will have over 100 yards receiving and a TD.

Week 9 game predictions

  • Bills over Jets
  • Bears over Lions
  • Jaguars over Bengals
  • Ravens over Browns
  • Bucs over Chiefs
  • Vikings over Texans
  • Cardinals over Rams
  • Titans over Packers
  • Miami over Broncos
  • Cowboys over Giants
  • Falcons over Raiders
  • Eagles over Seahawks
  • Pats over Colts
  • Skins over Steelers

Well there you have it for week 9, enjoy.

Week 7 – I was dead wrong

October 19, 2008

Well after a pathetic week of predictions, I am finally starting to cope with myself. I went 6-8 this week, bringing me to 15-13 on the season. Some may say that I hit a bit of a cold streak. Also I went 3-1 in betting this week, I had to lick my wounds and try to make some better calls next week. Besides that, this was one of the strangest weeks in the NFL I have ever seen. The Rams come into Washington and stun the red-hot Redskins? Dallas drops one in OT after a blocked punt goes for a touchdown (first game to end in OT with a blocked punt resulting in a touchdown, i might add)? Chicago scores a touchdown with 11 seconds left and the Falcons end up winning the game? Miami loses one on Houstons last play of the game? It was pure insanity this week in the NFL, I hope things return to normal soon.

I have to say, this is probably the strangest NFL season I have ever wittnessed. My pre-season favorites for the Super Bowl were the Pittsburg Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. Looking at it now, there is now way of telling who is even going to make the playoffs. This has been an interesting, but fun season to watch thus far.

I’m really late this week.  So here are my quick picks.

  • Bills over Bolts
  • New Orleans over Carolina
  • Chicago over Minnesota
  • Miami over Baltimore
  • Tennessee over Kansas City
  • Pittsburgh over Cincinnati
  • New York over San Fran
  • Texans over Lions
  • Colts over Pack
  • Jets over Raiders
  • Skins over Browns
  • Bucks over Seahawks
  • Broncos over Pats

See ya next week

Week 6

October 12, 2008

Well not so good last week, I ended up 9-5 but Ill give myself props for calling the Redskins game and the Vikings game.  Here it goes for week 6, hopefully I can break into double digits in the win collum.

  • Chicago is at Atlanta today which is really going to prove which one of these teams is for real.  No one predicted either of these teams to be as good as they are; yes i know they both have 2 losses.  I will favor the bears this week, Kyle Orton can do no wrong lately and the Bears rushing defense has been very good this season.  Bears take this one 24-17.
  • Here’s a scary stat, Miami has never beat Houston, ever.  That makes this game a little more interesting than a 2-2 team vs a 0-4 team.  But, Miami has something Houston doesn’t.  They have perfected the Wildcat offense.  Miami has ran the play 16 times this season for 10.4 yards a play and 6 or 7 touchdowns.  I think the R&R express will run all over Houstons crappy run defense.  Dolphins win this one 28-10.
  • Baltimore and Indianapolis square off this week and it should be an exciting one.  The Colts just don’t look like the Colts anymore, its clear powers are shifting in the NFL.  Their offense has been struggling which isn’t good because they play the toughest defense in the league today.   Two years ago I would say the Colts win in a blowout, but its not two years ago.  I think the Ravens make this one a defensive game and win it 21-10
  • Detroit goes to division rival Minnesota this week.  Prepare to die Detroit, the Vikings are gonna handle them with ease.  All Day is going to have a field day with the Lions defense, its going to be a bloodbath.  Vikings win this one 34-7.
  • The Raiders go to New Orleans this week and hope to pull an upset victory.  New Orleans is just too much of a complete football team  for Oakland to compete with.  Ill give credit to Oakland’s defense, but the Saints offense is just too much to handle.  I like the Saints to win this one 28-14
  • I dislike the Bengals, they are not fun to watch and they seem to be better at getting arrested than winning games.  I also dislike the Jets.  This game has no appeal to me.  Knowing my luck, its probably the game CBS will broadcast today.  Lets just say the Jets win, 30-24.
  • Panthers take on the Bucs this week in what should be a really good one.  Both teams are playing well this season and they are exciting to watch.  Carolina is coming off of that 34-0 win over the Chiefs, so expectations for this game are running high.  I like Carolina coming into Tampa and playing high energy ball, they take it today 21-10.
  • The Rams are terrible, they are going to lose badly today.  The Redskins are very good, they are going to win easily today.  Jason Campbell and Clinton Portis are playing extremely well, its nice to see them on top of the wildest division in football.  Skins win, a million to zero.
  • Jacksonville and Denver battle it out today.  I think this is going to be a really good game with a lot of scoring.  Denver can put up points in the blink of an eye and then give it all back just as fast.  Jacksonvilles only downfall is their WR corps.  Who are they?  Well there is Matt Jones, but he might be busy doing lines in the locker room.  So that leaves…who?  Well who knows, Jacksonville falls short today.  Broncos win 30-21.
  • Speaking of high scoring games, Arizona plays Dallas today.  I think this is going to be a close one, but Dallas will find a way.  Tony Romo makes everything exciting, this game is going to be as exciting as it gets.  I think Dallas is going to pull out a last minute win today, its gonna be a good one.  Dallas wins 31-30.
  • Frank Gore needs to do good if the 49ers are going to win.  He is carrying this team; yes JP is doing good, but this team rides on Frank Gores Shoulders.  They go to Philadelphia today and visit McNabb and company.  Lets play this game.  If Frank Gore carries the ball 15 times, they win.  If not, they lose.  Frank Gore doesn’t get the ball as much as he should today, Eagles win 21-14.
  • Green Bay will have a big day in the air today, Seahawks are in big trouble.  The Pack needs this win badly, they need to get on the right track again.  Must win for GB, they take it 35-17.
  • Well, well, well…the Pats play the Bolts today, AFC championship bring back any memories?  For the Chargers it will.  Since San Diego cant stop the pass, Randy Moss will come up big today, but not big enough.  I think LT will finally spark today and come back to his normal self.  Bolts win 27-17.
  • The Browns are no good and the Giants look like they are on their way to winning another Super Bowl.  This game isn’t going to be close at all.  G men win, 28-3.

Well thats it for this week, no fantasy advice because I posted really late.  I guess you really wouldn’t call it advice because I was wrong on most of my projections haha.  O well, who knows how these guys are really going to play anyways?

Week 5

October 5, 2008

Better late than never to start my weekly picks, so here it goes.

  • Tennessee at Baltimore should be a pretty decent game. Two of the best defenses in the league will make sure this one keeps low numbers on the score board. In the end, I think the red-hot Chris Johnson will be the difference maker. Titans win, 20-14
  • Chiefs visit the Panthers in the most exciting game all weekend…sure. Get ready for a blowout kids, no way the chiefs muster that kind of performance during week 4. Steve Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Jake Delhomme, and Muhsin Muhammad sounds like a good group to me. Panthers take this one 31-10.
  • Oh the Lions, they never seem to not let you down. I don’t understand a team with great talent and zero results. Oh yeah, its Matt Millen fault, but hes gone now! Rejoice! Well maybe not today, because the Bears take this one 24-9.
  • Atlanta plays very streaky and that scares me. I guess this can be credited to Micheal Turner absolutely dogging it when playing on a grass field. Well Mr. Turner, there is no grass field more famous than Lambeau. What makes this game interesting is the injury to Rodgers, if he doesn’t play they wont have their deep threat Randy Moss, I mean, Greg Jennings. This one is gonna be close, but the Pack take it 21-20
  • The Colts travel to Houston the take on the division rival Texans. Gotta feel bad for the Texans this season, its been a pretty bumpy ride. Peyton Manning clearly doesn’t look like himself this year, maybe he should focus on football and not Oreo’s double stuffed racing league commercials…just a thought. With a healthy offensive line and a lacking secondary on the Texans defense, Colts win it 24-14.
  • Well there is no one in the world that loves the Dolphins as much as me. Coming off a bye week, I think the dolphins are ready to do some damage…but may fall short like usual. The Chargers are just one inch away from being that dominant team that were last year. I think this game will be called “The glorious return of Chambers”, he is going to have quite the homecoming. I have to tip my hat to Cam Cameron on this one, he really knew what he was doing when he traded him away…freaking idiot. Bolts will hold off a late Dolphin rally and pull out the victory 31-21.
  • Give the Giants some respect, will ya? They are prefect so far and as weird as it sounds, the Super Bowl champs are flying under the radar. Its like everyone has forgotten that they only played the greatest game in NFL history. It may not be the best game in history today, but I expect a good showing out of the Giants as the beat the Seahawks 21-10.
  • Ah yes, my new favorite division on the NFL, the NFC East. This is going to be a great game between the Eagles and Redskins. The Redskins played inspired football against the Cowboys last week, so we all know what they are capable of. McNabb is banged up again, he reminds me of Steve McNair. Together, they probably have more injuries than half of the NFL. I like the Redskins in this one, Jason Campbell is turning into quite the quarterback. Skins win, 28-24.
  • The air show known as the Denver Broncos host the Buc’s today in bombfest. On one side you have Jay Cuttler who has thrown for over 300 yards in three of his games this year and on the other you have Brian Griese who threw 67 times against Chicago. If you like scoring, this game is going to be right up your alley. The Broncos score no matter what, and teams score high against them because they have no defense! Denver gets taught another lesson in defense today as tampa bay wins 38-34.
  • The best part about being a die hard Dolphins fan is living in Buffalo…god hates me. I will give the Bills credit, even though they have had to come back in the 4th quarter three times. This is where Kurt Warner steps in and says “hi, I’ve been here for a long time and I won’t let your team come back this weekend”. Sorry Bills fans, Cardinals are going to crush the hopes of Western New York as they roll the Bills 24-10. After the loss is when Bills fans blame Edwards and demand JP back, this is the circle of life that is Buffalo football.
  • Dallas beats the Bengals 31-7. This game isn’t worth talking about.
  • Ah yes, the Patriots battle the 49ers this week in San Fran. Belichick has claimed that hes ready to see Frank Gore lined up under center and is prepared to stop it…bull shit. God it feels good to see the Patriots dynasty crumbling before my eyes, sorry Mr. Kraft, your ride has ended. I feel like the Pats and 49ers are pretty equal teams and its gonna be a close one. I have to go with the niners here, Gore is going to have a big day and lead them to victory. 49ers 24 Pats 13.
  • Thank you Ben Rothleisburger, I’m glad I drafted you in fantasy this year, your great. I just can’t see the Steelers winning this game, I don’t know why. They need some serious help on their offensive line, its painful to watch big Ben go down so many times. I like the Jags in this one, 14-7.
  • The final game of the week is the New Orleans at Minnesota. Good luck running through the Williams Wall Reggie, they will break you. Well actually, good luck to anyone that can run through about 650 pounds of man. I figure the Vikings need to get on track sometime, so I’m predicting a 31-26 victory for the Vikings.

Well those are the picks for this week, I’ll keep a record for the season and see how I finish.

While on the subject of football, I’ll give a little insight on fantasy this week.

PLAYERS TO START

  • Frank Gore. Can the 49ers run the Wildcat formation? Yes. Will the 49ers run the Wildcat formation? Yes. I think Goes off this week. 120 rushing yards, 35 reception yards, and 2 TDs.
  • Peyton Manning. Coming off a bye week rested and with a healthy O-line, Peyton will return to his original self. Manning makes his triumphant return by throwing for 260 yards and 2 TDs, 0 ints.
  • Josh Reed. Yes I know he doesn’t have a nose for the end zone, but I think that changes today. Favre threw 6 TDs against the cards last week, all signs say yes for Reed. Reed will sneak into the end zone today. 75 yards and a TD.
  • Steve Slaton. Schaub is out this week so it all up to a man named Sage…yes the former Dolphin that lead the comeback against the bills in 2005. Texans rely on the run game heavily this week, so expect him to carry the ball a lot. 120 yards rushing, 20 receiving, and a TD.
  • Panthers D. They are playing the Chiefs and there is no way the Chiefs will play as good as last week. I cant wait to see how Julius Peppers plays, I see big things for him. 4 Sacks, 2 ints, 1 fumble rec., 1 TD.

PLAYERS TO SIT

  • Andre Johnson. Sage isn’t Schaub. Johnson has been lacking this year, I can’t see him having a big day without a good QB. 3 Rec. 43 yards.
  • Edgerrin James. If Stroud plays today, James isn’t going to put up very good numbers. They are going to have to run outside the Tackles so expect the rookie Hightower to see more carries. James will carry the ball 18 times for 56 yards.
  • Lions RB’s. I don’t care who they put in, they are not going to do good. Combined, they won’t rush for more than 75 yards against the Bears. Smith and Johnson combine for 75 yards, thats all that needs to be said.
  • Mewelde Moore. Yes hes getting the start today at Jacksonville, but the Steelers haven’t really shown great running since week 1. I can’t see him running well against the Jags tough D. He will carry the ball 20 times for 60 yards.
  • Dwayne Bowe. This isn’t his fault. Dwayne Bowe won’t get the football because the pressure the Chiefs QB (just pick one out of a hat, who the hell knows who is starting). I like you Dwayne Bowe, its not your fault this week. 4 rec for 35 yards.

SLEEPER OF THE WEEK

  • Dominik Hixon. With Plax not playing, I see Hixon getting more targets. I think he will put up decent numbers as he catches the ball 6 times for 70 yards and one score.

Well thats it this week, lets see how I do.

I can throw 6 touchdowns

September 29, 2008

Brett Favre seems to be settling into the Jets offensive system quite nicely. He put on a show today by throwing 6 TD’s, I have to admit it was fun to watch. I hate to see the Jets win, but I can’t hate on Favre, that would be like hating the NFL and what it stands for. So as a Dolphins fan, hats off to you Mr. Favre, that was quite the show.

In other news, the Chiefs handled the Broncos pretty easily today…lost me $20, thanks Denver. Eddie Royal did get me some good fantasy points, so the whole game wasn’t a waste. I’d imagine a gust of wind knocked everyone over standing outside of the Chiefs locker room, they could finally exhale. When you know a team is in for a miserable season, you have to be a little sympathetic. Maybe I’m just saying this because my Dolphins went 1-16 a year ago and I wanted to shoot myself. Game ball goes to good old Grandmama aka Larry Johnson. 198 yards on 28 carries with 2 TD’s, enough said.

Both the Bills and Titans remain undefeated. Buffalo has played some good football behind the rushing attack of Lynch, I still don’t have total faith in Trent Edwards yet, he doesn’t do anything that catches my eye. I am totally jumping on the Titans bandwagon, I thought the game against the Vikings was going to be much closer than it was. Defense wins championships, I’m sure thats the Titans motto for this season.

Anquan Boldin took a hard shot today in the 4th quarter of the Jets game. I was watching the Bills game when a friend texted me and said Boldin just snapped his neck. We turned the game on and saw him getting carted off the field, he showed no signs of movement. When we all thought he just suffered a career ending injury. ESPN reported that he is ok and can move his extremities, luckily he didn’t suffer any serious injuries. Couldn’t help but think of Kevin Everett during the Bills season opener last year, scary stuff.

I have to end by congratulating my favorite college football team, The Alabama Crimson Tide. They showed up to Georgia and played out of their minds. I have never been so excited about the tide, this could possibly be their year. Good thing Georgia called for a blackout crowd, it was a funeral for their national championship hopes. Alabama, number 2 in the nation, roll tide!

Patriots suck and I love it!

September 22, 2008

Well what a great day we had in the the NFL today, the mighty 21 game (season games) win streak for the New England Patriots comes to an end today as the Miami Dolphins mopped the floor with them. What makes this even sweeter is that I am a dolphins fan, so it means a little bit more to me. How about Ronnie Brown? Good thing he scored 5 touchdowns on the day I didn’t start him in fantasy, awesome.

Ronnie Brown compiled 5TDs in the fins victory over the pats

But, beggers can’t be choosers, I am ecstatic with the HUGE win today.

So Jay Cutler is now the new best quarterback ever. I can’t believe how much progress he has made since last season. At my fantasy football draft we laughed our asses off when the drunkest guy there picked Cutler and Marshall.  Laughed even harder when he said “one ball, two scores”, we didn’t think Cutler and Marshall would be this good. Now he is dominating the league because that combination scores 50 points every game. Denver needs to work on their defense, the score at the end of the first quarter was 21-3, Broncos clearly dominating. That seems like the making of a blow out, not a missed field goal with 2 minutes remaining. I think they need to strengthen that defense to compliment that offense that scores every five seconds.
A couple teams that continue to impress me are the Titans and Bills. The Titans defense is absolutely nuts, Vanden Bosch, Haynesworth, and Bullock just can be stopped. I have to say, its nice to see a seasoned veteran lead the Titans to victory, sorry Vince, mad props Kerry. As much as it pains me to say it,

the Bills are good. So what, they almost got caught in a trap game vs Oakland, they drove down the field for a TD, stopped Oakland, then drove down the field again to kick the game winner, impressive? yes. I still don’t have that much faith in Trent Edwards, his play is consistent, but not outstanding. He is winning games, so I guess thats the bottom line, I shouldn’t criticize him, but I’m a Dolphins fan.

Cowboys just won, saw that coming. I picked them to go to the super bowl and come out victorious.

Good day in the NFL, I can sleep happy with Ronnie Brown leading the team to victory. And

who knew he was a lefty? Fasano maybe?
